   CFAC - MISSION - HISTORY - ACTIVITIES

The Chatsworth Fine Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of the visual arts within the local community.  It is the mission of the CFAC to encourage art exhibition in the Northwest Valley in order to give our community the opportunity to view and experience the outstanding art that is being created by artists who live and work within their Valley neighborhoods.

The CFAC is comprised of artists and art supporters and membership is open to anyone who shares our goals and is willing to assist in CFAC activities.  In addition, the CFAC functions as a support structure for our artist members providing educational seminars on subjects relevant to the business of art, and the advancement of art careers.   The CFAC also maintains an inventory of art display equipment that artists may rent in order to participate in more art exhibitions, shows, and fairs.

The Chatsworth Fine Arts Council began in 1998 as the Fine Arts Committee of the Chatsworth Depot Foundation. The Depot Foundation had been created to encourage the development of the new Metrolink Depot as a center of community activities. With the support and assistance of then City Councilman Hal Bernson, and the Chatsworth Chamber of Commerce, the early CFAC began organizing art events at the Chatsworth Metrolink Depot. Over the next few years, the Fine Arts Committee presented additional Depot Art shows, themed art exhibits, and a North Valley Artist’s Studio Tour which began at an art reception staged at the Depot.

Membership in the Fine Arts Committee grew and the members expressed an interest in art activities beyond those being held under the Depot Foundation.  It was decided that the Fine Arts Committee, which had already begun using the Chatsworth Fine Arts Council name, should become a separate organization.  The CFAC applied for and was granted status as a 501 c (3) nonprofit community organization in 2002. The CFAC continued its affiliation with the Depot Foundation, but also expanded into art activities beyond the Depot.  In 2003 the Depot Foundation was disbanded, but the CFAC has continued to have support from the LA City Council District 12 Office, the Chatsworth Porter Ranch Chamber of Commerce, and the LA Dept. of Transportation, enabling the CFAC to continue presenting Art events and shows at the Chatsworth Metrolink Train Station each year.

2018 marks the 20th Anniversary of the Chatsworth Fine Arts Council and we will celebrate with our signature annual event, the Depot Art Show, where the work of the Northwest Valley's best artists will be displayed both indoors and outdoors on the patios and walkways surrounding the Depot. The CFAC is pleased that you have helped make our show an anticipated and popular yearly event in the community, averaging an attendance of 3000 visitors each year.

In 2012, the CFAC was pleased to begin a partnership with the Shops At West End group of business owners along Devonshire Street in Chatsworth. In the years since our formation, we have organized and presented West End Art Walks every summer. These events have been welcomed by the public and we look forward to participating in the future West End Art Walk events in our Chatsworth community.
