Enriching the Community with the Arts...
On Monday, March 18, CFAC’s Vice President, Carole Raschella, attended the Non-Profit Summit for Enriching the Community with the Arts, held at the Devonshire PALS Youth Center in Northridge. The event was initiated by Councilmember Mitchell Englander of the Northwest San Fernando Valley’s Twelfth District as a way to foster collaboration and encourage partnership projects.
Organizations and artists have sought assistance from his office for funding, technical assistance and resources, hCouncilmember Englander recognizes the important role of community-based and non-profit organizations in achieving these goals and partnered with local artists last summer to conduct a public art event at the Valley Family Festival. In addition, he has transformed his new Community Service Center into a spectacular community art gallery.
The summit was highlighted by three speakers; Felicia Filer from the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Sofia Klatzker of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, and Danielle Brazell, Executive Director of Arts For LA. Councilmember Englander thanked them for taking the time to attend, and expressed his gratitude for their insights and advice which will assist the artistic community to continue the development of new relationships by matching volunteers with organizations. He offered his own contribution by promising to share his RSVP list with all summit attendees.
Councilmember Englander has always been a friend of the public arts. From community revitalization to tourist-related spending, he believes they have a real and significant economic impact on our city. He is proud to endorse the wealth of talent residing in his district, and the Chatsworth Fine Arts Council is grateful for his support.
